Collaborators
This public service in favour of digital inclusion is possible through several partners such as:
UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) is the largest local government organization of local authorities in the world representing over 1000 cities and 112 national local government associations. UCLG has a decentralized structure with 7 Regional Sections in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Euro-Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and West Asia, North America and a Metropolitan section. These Regional and Metropolitan Sections are independent legal entities which conduct their own regional activities.
IT4ALL Network boosts the cooperation between local authorities in the field of the Information Society. Approximately 2,000 cities and regions based on 4 continents represent around 1,000 million people.
Two UN initiatives concerning the Digital inclusion:
- The Decentralized Cooperation Programme (DCP) of UNITAR provides training to local authorities in order to enhance their capacity to implement international conventions and the Millennium Development Goals. The network of regional associated training centres are the so called CIFAL Centres (International Training Centre for Local Authorities/Actors).
- And the second one, the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID). A new initiative approved by the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 2006 to promote the effective use of ICT for development as a way to meet the MDG internationally agreed. Recognizing that no single actor is capable of achieving the MDGs in isolation, the creation of an open and inclusive platform that can broaden the dialogue on innovative ways of harnessing ICT for advancing development is crucial.
